Common questions

How country attribution works

What does 'country' mean here?

Country of strategic control — where the parent company is headquartered and where ownership decisions are made. Not where the product is manufactured. A brand made in India by a Swiss parent is counted under Switzerland.

Why do some brands show 'Unknown'?

We surface 'Unknown' only when the parent company is genuinely independent or unverified. We don't guess. Every classification has to trace to a corporate filing or public disclosure.

How often is this updated?

Weekly. When a parent company changes (acquisition, divestment, IPO), the change appears in the public ownership change log within 24 hours.

Can I get this data via API?

Yes — the Ownership API returns the same per-country dataset as JSON. See /ownership-api for endpoints and rate limits.
